Anti-virus vendor Kaspersky Labs has released a beta of its new scanning software for Novell NetWare environments. Featuring integration into Novell’s management environment and directory services, the new product will offer improved performance and management, the company says.

Using a Java-based management system integrated into Novell’s ConsoleOne backend, administrators will be able to control deployment, distribute virus definition updates and monitor threats. With management reach extended by integration into the NDS directory, all aspects of the software can be managed remotely.

One of the most common reasons for viral infection is a lack of coordinated updates across multiple users’ machines, or a lack of regular updates. Integration into ConsoleOne and NDS promises to alleviate that risk entirely. Updates are downloaded from the Kaspersky site to the NetWare server and from there distributed out to client stations.

Kaspersky says that new support for multi-threading allows the software to scan multiple files simultaneously, increasing the efficiency of the software in a large network environment.
