The alliance seeks in the beginning to facilitate charity donations via the Internet before promoting business-to-consumer and business-to-business transactions in the region in a latter stage.
Under the alliance Visa will first sponsor Ajeeb.com’s pioneering charity channel that was launched on December 1 to facilitate payment of donations over the Internet. The alliance will also facilitate the development of an e-market through Ajeeb.com which now has an affiliate program with more than 300 online shops around the world that cover a wide range of consumer products.
“The Research Unit of Ajeeb.com forecasts the value of B2C trade in the region, which stands at $150 million for year 2000, to reach $500 million by the end of 2002. We are not only seeking to play a role in achieving that figure, but are also keen to see a fair portion of this trade being made with regional e-commerce sites,”. said Abdul Kader Al Kamli, editor-in-chief and general manager of Ajeeb.com.
