Leading executive from the networking vendor says deeper involvement in projects may enable company to compete with US counterparts.

Accton is determined to find a greater role within telecommunications projects, according to a high-ranking executive of the company on a recent visit to the region.

The decision is facilitated by the purchase by Accton late last year, of Eumitcom, a wireless communications and networking company.

The end goal, according to Charles Chen, managing director of Accton Technology Corp. in Singapore, is to add weight to the punch that the Accton brand is able to pack.

Currently, Accton has OEM contracts with “all the major US networking companies,” according to Chen.

“So we know that we have the ability, and that our technology is strong enough. The problem is still the [perception] that if you are a Taiwanese company—or if you are not a US one, anyway—then that should carry a price penalty,” said Chen.

The acquisition of Eumitcom, as well as joint ventures with SMC and USRobotics in recent years, are aimed at dispelling the belief that Taiwanese companies are any different to their US counterparts.

Eumitcom has successfully developed and is mass producing 11Mbits/second wireless PCMCIA Card and Bridge products that meet the IEEE802.11 international standard.
