WAP phones fail to impress in Middle East

Endless hype seems to surround the concept of mobile Internet services, but visitors to ITP.net don't even seem impressed enough to put a WAP phone their lists of desirable gifts.

Despite the hype surrounding mobile Internet technology, few people seem excited by the concept.

In an ITP.net spot poll last week, only 16% of voters said that a WAP phone would be their favorite gift out of a range of consumer electronics devices.

Home electronics seemed much more in favour with digital cameras and DVD players topping the list of most desirable objects.

Napster may be taking over the world of music with its free distribution of MP3-based titles, but MP3 players were not a strong contendor for gift of the year, receiving only 17% of the vote.

Bottom of the list was Palmpilot or equivalent with a mere 14% of votes.
