National Bank of Dubai has already made significant moves to deliver Internet banking, but it made another step forward recently with the launch of the UAE’s first banking Customer Interactive Terminal (CTI).

The CTI is a touch-screen stand-alone terminal, which allows the bank’s customers to access the National Bank website and National Bank online, its Internet banking service, and conduct financial and non-financial transactions securely.

“Our aim in developing CTIs was to provide our customers and the general public with an easy and convenient way of banking with NBD whilst also having access to all the information they require on the bank’s products and services,” said Abdulfattah Sharaf, NBD’s business development manager. “We introduced the first CIT at NBD’s main office in Deira within the ATM room on the ground floor, which is open to all customers and visitors during banking hours."

Through the CIT, users can get detailed information on the bank’s products and services, apply for an NBD bank account or credit card, apply for National Bank online, access foreign exchange rates or daily updated gold and silver prices and view and access Internet banking services. The bank’s personal customers who are registered users of National Bank online can; view the balance of their NBD account; view their bank account and credit card statements; transfer funds to their own accounts and to third party accounts; make one-off bill payments to Etisalat, Dewa, and other NBD credit cards and setup standing orders.

“Electronic banking can be defined in many ways, but for us, we define this as ‘the delivery of banking and financial services where the customer has no need for physical presence,’” said Sharaf. “Hence we will be providing more Customers Interactive Terminals when we open our first fully automated branch later this year, another new NBD concept. Customers will not only have the convenience of banking after working hours but also a choice in how they wish to bank with us and it is the Internet that has made this possible.”
