Samsung's Middle East operation is now distributing what it describes as the "fastest single-platter, noiseless hard disk in the industry."

The SpinPoint V20400 series is the newest member of the company's 5400 RPM family, and has been designed to meet the demands for storage that the Internet and multimedia are driving.

"The series provides leading edge capacity extensions to our popular V10200 and V15300 series and delivers the desired performance of 5300 RPM to our cost-sensitive desktop customers," said DK Byeon, general manager, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

Samsung says the drive is optimised for a new breed of PCs. It runs cooler that previous models, making it ideal for fanless PCs; and its slim shape makes it use up less space in a compact PC.
