Acer Computers has been named as the launch partner for Microsoft’s Windows ME consumer operating system. Acer, which has enjoyed a strong market position in consumer PC sales for its Aspire model, will join Microsoft for launch events in Dubai and Lebanon on September 14.

Windows Me is designed to improve the stability, digital media functionality, home networking and Internet related services of a PC. It is positioned solely as a consumer operating system, with Windows 2000 the only desktop operating system recommended by Microsoft for businesses.

“The launch of Windows Millennium reiterates Microsoft’s commitment to the home user,” explains Mazen Shehadeh, Product Manager desktop application division at Microsoft Gulf and Eastern Mediterranean (GEM). “With its increased reliability, stability, and easy-access entertainment, we are confident that Windows Millennium will be the essential operating system of choice for home computing."
