Dell has become one of the first PC manufacturers in the Middle East to ship 1GHz machines.

The Dell Precision Workstation 620 is available in single- and dual- processor configurations immediately. The company also plans to begin shipping the 1 GHz processors on its Dell Precision Workstation 220 and 420 models in September and will be showcasing them at Gitex 2000.

Dell’s latest workstations feature the new dual-processor capable versions of the Intel Pentium III Xeon and the Intel Pentium III processors running at 1 GHz.

“Dell’s direct model allows us to bring technology improvements to market quickly. It is the reason that Dell became the No. 1 supplier of workstations worldwide, based on unit shipments, in the second quarter of this year,” said Chris Calvert, Director Dell Precision Workstations, Dell EMEA. “Processor performance is critical to many of our workstation customers, whether they are creating content for the Internet, inventing special effects, generating mechanical models or running supercomputing clusters.”

Dell Precision Workstations are intended for professional users who demand high performance in the digital content creation (DCC), computer-aided design (CAD), geographic information systems (GIS), computer animation, software development, and financial analysis markets.
