African telcos integrate back end & customer-facing apps

Click GSM and Vista Cellular both move towards integration of customer care and billing solutions with back-end services

Click GSM in Egypt and Vista Cellular in Botswana have selected ConVerge from LHS Group Inc. to process sales orders and to manage inventory and cash at the point of sale, LHS has announced.

Both companies already use a customer care and billing system from LHS. When the products are fully integrated later this year, it will enable the operators to initiate customer activation and account payments from retail locations, LHS said.

"The closing of this business demonstrates the need for a single vendor solution to provide integrated front and back office functionality," stated Peter Graffman, VP of Business Development for LHS InfoCell.

"This solution provides Vista Cellular and Click GSM with an accurate and end-to-end view of their businesses, enabling them to manage inventory and cash efficiently. In addition, sales personnel have the information and functionality they need to provide rapid activation of service, ensuring a positive customer experience," Graffman added.

With 250,000 customers, CLICK GSM operates the smaller of the two mobile phone networks in Egypt. Vista Cellular is a leading mobile phone operator in Botswana. France Telecom holds approximately 50 percent of the shares in Vista Cellular.
