Psion has established a joint venture company with United News and Media, to target the new breed of user accessing Internet services over mobile devices.

The new company, Trivanti Ltd, will command the support of a range of technology companies and media businesses. Psion has acquired Fonedata Ltd, one of the UK's leading WAP portals, to feed to the Trivanti joint venture.

Fonedata is well known for its corporate WAP and SMS services. Psion will also merge its existing Internet division into the Trivanti group.

Trivanti is split into three divisions, each focusing on separate, key market areas: Horizontal, aimed at the broad market of mobile executives, Vertical, aimed at users in specific professions, and Corporate, aimed at businesses establishing mobile Internet solutions for employees and customers.

Content Focused

As with recent mergers of wireless heavyweights, provision of content is fundamental in the Trivanti venture. Andrew Nugée, COO, Xilerate (United's European online division), said, “We will look for ways to jump-start Trivanti by harnessing our communities and content.”
