Intel is developing firmware that will allow you to add continuous speech recognition to your web based applications. The technology is to be added to the Intel subsidiary Dialogic’s family of voice processing products that support speech-based Web.

Continuous speech processing provides the constant echo cancellation and speech detection necessary to build complex speech recognition applications for the telephone.

By offering this technology as an integrated feature on its voice processing platforms, Dialogic is unique in reducing host-based workload without requiring additional hardware.

The enhanced technology also enables applications to recognize voice commands more accurately, making them easier to use and increasing customer satisfaction.

“Building on technology from Intel, Quack.com has broken new ground in providing solutions for voice-access to Internet-based information,” said Alex Quilici, CEO and co-founder, Quack.com.

“Fueled by Intel’s new, low-cost technology, we expect to see businesses adopt speech access at a rapid pace to augment their current on-line strategies.”

Voice Portals

Continuous Speech Processing enables e-businesses to provide “voice portals” or voice-based Web browser capabilities so that customers can have anytime, anywhere access to the Internet using the phone. Companies are already deploying Dialogic technology to provide speech-based Web access over the phone in the United States.

“Internet speech recognition for e-commerce is a prime example of how the Internet and telecommunications are converging,” said John Landau, VP of strategic marketing at Dialogic.

“Because speech is the most natural, mobile, and ubiquitous user interface, we believe adding speech capabilities to the Internet has the potential for significant growth opportunities. The advent of automated speech recognition user interfaces will enable the 1.5 billion users of phones, cell phones, and web phones to more easily transact business on the Internet.

Wireless Phone

“By year-end, 17 million wireless phone users in the US will be able to access wireless data, but all 105 million users will have the option of voice browsing and message management,” said Adam Zawel, an analyst with The Yankee Group.

“The demand for information in a mobile environment is enormous, especially when the content is personalised and location-relevant. Mobile portals are in a great position to tap into this market as businesses recognise the value in voice-enabling content and applications.”

With their unique Internet speech-enabling technology, Intel and Dialogic are able to support the sophisticated speech recognition algorithm requirements of the leading speech technology developers.

This is achieved through a combination of Dialogic voice and data integration products and Intel Architecture computing systems.
