Andersen Consulting has set up a unit that aims to tell you how to ride the Internet tiger. The company, which claims to be the world’s leading business and technology consultancy, has established a regional practice for its Communications and High Tech (C&HT) Market Unit in the United Arab Emirates.

“This is the right time to establish this practice, as many national telecommunications providers are restructuring their businesses to counter increased competition from both the private sector within the region and the global players, and as the established content providers face a new media: the World Wide Web.

“The move towards the digital economy has created an urgent need for the efficient and rapid roll-out of the most appropriate technologies,” says Nabil Khalil, Senior Manager at the C&HT practice at Andersen Consulting Middle East.

This practice, serving the entire Middle East, will focus on delivering strategy, process, human performance and technology business solutions to the communications and media industries by extending global expertise to its well-established local team.

“Our Communications & High Tech practice will be able to bring a wealth of global business expertise to bear on behalf of our clients here,” Khalil said.

The information technology and telecommunications industries and their infrastructure are undergoing massive change in the Middle East, and many PTTs/carriers need to grapple with major changes in technology as well as privatisation.

New Licenses

Service providers in the region are grappling with issues such as the issuing of new licences, expanding and upgrading their networks, or determining their strategy in how best to surf the Internet wave.

“With explosive growth rates and the introduction of new services in all segments of the market, operators in this region need to anticipate and respond to the needs of their customers. We have observed an increased investment in customer relationship management, innovative product development, technology, and internal skill building by the providers.

"All of these elements are required to maintain profitable growth in the future,” commented Kim Forcier, Senior Manager at the Communications and High Tech practice of Andersen Consulting Middle East.

“Andersen Consulting can help formulate strategies and devise business solutions to assist our clients meet the demands of the future”.

The Communications & High Tech practice offers services ranging from strategy definition to the integration of technology solutions in today’s complex Communications and Media environment. Andersen Consulting provides consulting services to many of the leading telecommunications providers world-wide.
