ERTU kit spending exceeds $25 million

ERTU spent more than 85 Million Egyptian pounds (US $25 Million) on new technology during the last fiscal year.

ERTU spent more than 85 Million Egyptian pounds (US $25 Million) on new technology during the last fiscal year. According to purchasing manager Nagy Barkouky, ERTU invested this quite considerable sum on transmission and production equipment with studios being updated and broadcast facilities getting an overhaul.

Reading from the Arabic print out summary of the year’s spending, Barkouky outlined that the money was spent on, "New cameras and the renewal of all equipment in studios number seven and eight, sound equipment from Studer, a new videotape centre, the renewal of drama four drama studios, a new air studio from Studer, the renewal of musical studio number 46 also from Studer, portable cameras from Sony Broadcast."

"Among the investments in the transmitting project are: Six medium wave 10 kW transmitters (from Harris Corporation) in Mersa Matrouh (close to the battlefield of El-Alamein, where General Montgomery stood head to head with Field Marshal Rommel in WWII.); three 2kW transmitters on the north coast, decoders from continental microwave; 12 50 w transmitters to south Egypt' 4 2kW transmitters to Upper Egypt and 2 500W."
