Intel wants larger share of region’s networking market

Intel Middle East kicked its networking business into a higher gear when it announced it was ready to start selling to high-end enterprise customers.

Intel Middle East kicked its networking business into a higher gear during a Dubai event last month, when it announced it was ready to start selling to high-end enterprise customers.

The company has been busily acquiring networking companies, and developing technologies of its own, over the past several years, but has never really focused on this lucrative business in the Middle East.

Now, according to Dave King, Intel’s director of sales and marketing for its Reseller Channel Organisation, that is about to change. “You will see Intel selling a much wider range of products in the Middle East than they did before,” he said.

Now, Intel has its eye on government tenders and to provide infrastructure for data centres.

This new move towards a larger networking role will mean new reseller certifications-including an e-business one to be introduced in September. “We want to be the building block supplier of the Internet economy. The implication for the market here will be a big step up in the reseller programme,” said King.

The company announced a new small office networking device to complement its existing line-up; the Intel InBusiness Small Office Network. The device offers small businesses high-speed Internet connectivity, office resource sharing and remote management functions.
