Yahoo China’s president resigned last month, after barely 40 days on the job, according to a report from Reuters. The news agency cited Alibaba.com, which owns the Yahoo China site.

Xie Wen, who was chief executive of Chinese financial Web portal Hexun.com before joining Yahoo China, left for personal reasons, according to a statement. Yahoo China’s head of strategy development, Zeng Ming, will serve as acting president, the company said last month.

Yahoo China was absorbed by China-based Alibaba last year when Yahoo of the United States bought a 40% stake in Alibaba for US$1 billion.

China is the world’s second-largest internet market, but researchers say that Yahoo China lags far behind Baidu.com, which has roughly half of the market, as well as being behind Google.
