Broadband penetration is growing fastest in the Middle East and Africa region, according to new research by market analyst Research and Markets.

The broadband market grew by 89% in the Middle East and Africa between Q1 2005 and Q1 2006, with Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL) the dominant technology in the area with a subscriber base of 3.45 million last year.

The report named Turkey, Morocco, and Egypt as Middle East countries that were demonstrating particularly high levels of growth. However, it also found that the Middle East and Africa market makes up only 2% of the total worldwide broadband market, just behind Eastern Europe, which makes up 3%.
