Dubai-based First International Computers (FIC) is honing in on the burgeoning Middle East smart home technology sector, recently teaming up with Everex to launch a range of digital home media centre PCs at GITEX 2006 in Dubai. The media centre PCs, which feature AMD and Intel processors, support a range of wireless multimedia applications. They are primarily designed to enable homeowners to remotely transmit digital video and associated content to monitors located throughout the home. FIC Middle East managing director Hassan Ashi confirmed that the company was also in negotiations with a number of Dubai-based property developers to supply them with home networking and multimedia application solutions. “We are currently working with companies such as Activemania, Convergex and Luxsat to develop entertainment software for digital home solutions,” he said. “Consumer demand for these products in the Middle East is set to explode and we want to establish ourselves as a major player in the region,” he added. Ashi also revealed that the company was actively seeking OEM deals with major vendors looking to develop low-cost PCs and notebooks for emerging markets in the Middle East and North Africa. “Intel and AMD are focusing heavily on developing low-cost PCs, and we are working closely with them on certain projects,” he said. “The products will be developed specifically for enterprise projects in emerging markets such as Egypt.”
