The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission in Jordan has unblocked Skype’s popular VoIP website, one month after it banned the site citing security concerns.

Al Ansari Al Mashaqbah, director of the commission’s regulatory department, last month confirmed to The Jordan Times that the security issues that led to the site’s blocking had been resolved.

One month previously the commission had contacted Jordan’s ISPs to inform them of its decision to ban Skype.com, and asked them to abide by this policy by blocking access to the site.

According to unnamed technical support representatives at ISP Wanadoo, Skype had been identified as a potential terrorist tool, because of the form of encryption it used which might allow hackers to monitor Skype conversations.

According to several Jordanian bloggers Skype’s VoIP service remained available during the month ban.
