Sahara fuels growth with mySAP roll out

Software giant’s ERP to support shared services

Saudi firm Sahara Petrochemicals Company has deployed SAP’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution to support the shared services it deploys across its petrochemical projects.

The firm, which is part of the Zamil Group, hopes to automate and unify its business processes to connect its various operations and cut costs using mySAP ERP.

SAP’s solution will be rolled out at Sahara’s affiliate plants, including the Al Waha Petrochemical Company in Al-Jubail Industrial City in two phases starting in January next year. In the first phase baseline processes such as financials and human resources (HR) will be covered, while in the second the firm will deploy the logistics, production planning and distribution modules.

“We wanted to capitalise on SAP’s unmatched industry knowledge and market leading solutions focused on the oil, gas and petrochemical industry,” said Esam Himdy, executive president of Sahara Petrochemical Company. “This is a green field implementation and we want to adopt SAP’s best practices to meet our objectives of maintaining best-in-class performance for our business units.”

Sahara has said it also plans to deploy SAP’s xMII solution — a composite application which extends SAP’s manufacturing and ERP software into plant operations, giving manufacturers and production personnel the ability to adapt quickly to change and shifts in demand.

The xMII solution provides end-to-end visibility, analytics and control of manufacturing processes, increasing responsiveness and efficiency.

The solution offers customers unified, real-time analytics and visualisation — often referred to as “manufacturing intelligence” — as an out-of-the box solution for manufacturing industries.

“We want to build a flexible foundation that will allow us to remain competitive. SAP Arabia has a well-established network in the region and we believe their focus on business solutions gives them an edge over their competitors,” added Himdy.

The petrochemicals sector is a key focus for SAP Arabia, which includes oil giant Aramco in its customer portfolio.

According to Essam Enany, president of SAP Arabia, business solutions such as SAP’s are critical for firms such as Sahara in an increasingly competitive market. He referred to research by McKinsey & Companies which predicted a paradigm shift in the petrochemicals business from the West to the East and claimed the region would emerge as a global hub in the future.
