ITP Digital, the online publishing division of ITP, will launch its first mobile portal this month.

The Dubai-based publisher will reformat content from its itp.net websites for mobile phone users.

News and features from ITP's technology, business, construction and Campaign websites will be available on the mobile platform.

In addition, users will also be able to access content from this week's Gulf Information and Technology Exhibition (GITEX) including news from GitexTimes, exhibitor listings and map of the halls.

"People in the Middle East want to access news and information anywhere, at a convenient time to them," said Peter Conmy, director at ITP Digital. "ITP's new mobile portal will not only save people time but also provide additional quality of service."

The service will be available in both Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) versions to ensure maximum exposure and compatibly for mobile users. Other various business and consumer mobile portals are expected to roll out in the future.

The ITP.net mobile portal is available via www.itp.net/mobile from any mobile device.

GPRS, eWAP or Weyak services are required from Etisalat or similar services from Du to launch in the next few months.

Services targeted at mobile phone users are being launched quickly across the Gulf states. The UAE has led countries such as the UK and Sweden, with the world's highest mobile penetration rate of 145% at the end of 2005 with 4.5 million connections, according to global technology research firm Gartner.

While internet penetration remains low in the region, the demand for mobile services has rocketed in recent years. Mobile operators in the Gulf are scrambling to offer customers the very latest in technology through their mobiles in order to stave off competition from rival firms.
