IBM has sued online retail site Amazon, accusing it of exploiting intellectual property rights.

Big Blue claims Amazon has breached five of its patents covering practices in networking and e-commerce, including the use of hypertext links and online advertising.

IBM said it was driven to take legal measures after four years of trying to resolve its concerns with Amazon did not bring resolution.

“IBM’s property is being knowingly and unfairly exploited,” stated John Kelly, senior vice president of IBM technology and intellectual property.

“When someone takes our property, without our permission through a license, we have no option but to protect it through every means available to us,” Kelly continued.
