Michael Dell strode on stage to shake hands with AMD CEO Hector Ruiz at last week’s Oracle OpenWorld conference in San Francisco, US, signalling that the two are now firm partners.

During Dell’s keynote, the PC giant’s chairman announced that the vendor had begun selling its first ever servers using AMD microprocessors, ending its exclusive relationship with Intel in the x86 server market.

This year’s conference was dominated by a theme of developing partnerships rather than just getting out the chequebook, but that didn’t stop Oracle announcing its tenth acquisition of the year — the firm is buying telecom software developer MetaSolv for US$219million.
