AWCCS appoints 3i Infotech to power new infrastructure

Enterprise solution will help improve efficiency

UAE service provider Al Wathba Company for Central Services (AWCCS) has appointed 3i Infotech to upgrade its IT infrastructure as it gears up for expansion.

The software product company will provide AWCCS — the fleet management arm for the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority Group (ADWEA) — with a complete end-to-end enterprise solution, covering fleet management, finances and human resources (HR).

This will replace the Abu Dhabi-based firm’s existing system, which was based on a combination of Oracle’s e-Business suite with various legacy systems.

3i Infotech’s solution, which is based on Orion-Auto and Armada products, will help AWCCS to simplify its operations, said Anurag Chandra, associate dire- ctor of Cedar Management Consulting, which helped AWCCS in the selection of the IT firm.

He explained that the problem with the old system was that it was not completely integrated with all parts of the business, which meant that people had to do a lot of manual work.

“[This] will now be resolved and work will move a lot more smoothly. The [new] system has to eliminate a lot of manual work and improve efficiency. It frees up people to do more value-added jobs,” he said.

The new solution should help to improve efficiency and reduce paperwork, commented Qusai Abdulaziz Kankazar, deputy general manager of AWCCS.

“In the long-term, there should be a return on investment (ROI) because man-hours will be reduced as well as paperwork and overheads. But at this time we’re not looking for a monetary payback.”

“We are looking to increase the quality of our work; we are a service provider and customer satisfaction is our main goal,” he stated.

The new technology should definitely result in operational savings, according to 3i Info- tech, thanks to its main benefit which is the speed of deployment of IT systems with a very high degree of fit to the business process.

“The end-to-end solution will help AWCCS manage all parts of its business with hugely increased effectiveness and efficiency and also provide an extremely resilient platform for growth,” commented Kalpesh Desai, chief operating officer for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at 3i Infotech.

AWCCS is counting on its IT infrastructure to provide critical support as it undertakes a huge expansion of its fleet management business.

Created as part of the privatisation process for ADWEA, it now provides fleet management and heavy equipment services to ADWEA Group and its affiliates.

It plans to expand its vehicles from 1,475 to nearly 10,000 over the next two years.

The first phase of the implementation, which involves getting the fleet management process up and running, is due to start shortly and is expected to take five to six months; while the second, which concerns back office applications, should take around four months.
