Research in Motion (RIM) and its strategic Middle East channel partner Emitac Mobile Solutions (EMS) have announced that Saudi Arabia's Mobily plans to become the latest operator to jump on board the BlackBerry bandwagon.

“We are very excited to launch BlackBerry from Mobily in Saudi Arabia,” said Derek Roga, CEO at EMS, the Dubaibased mobile systems integrator, which already boasts an office presence in the Kingdom.

“The market has definitely developed and is now ripe and ready to optimise all the BlackBerry offerings.”

Khalid Al Kaf, CEO at Mobily, commented: “KSA has always been the largest market for most companies doing business in the Gulf region.

Businesses are in urgent need of solutions that address the fast paced life and competitive environment they operate in.

We are happy to be the first to bring BlackBerry to these customers.”

Mobily represents the first operator in Saudi Arabia to introduce the BlackBerry wireless platform.

EMS will assist Mobily in launching, delivering, supporting and selling the BlackBerry mobility solution.

EMS has already carried out a similar role with the UAE's Etisalat and has seen strong initial adoption of push e-mail solutions by some of the largest corporate customers operating in the country.

According to EMS and RIM, the UAE customer list already using BlackBerry solutions includes Emaar, Emirates, National Bank of Dubai, Emirates Bank, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Union Properties, DIFX and DIFC.

Mobily will initially offer the BlackBerry enterprise server and 8700g device to corporate customers.

The 8700g is capable of tight integration with Exchange, GroupWise and Lotus Domino e-mail systems.

Mobily customers will be able to use the BlackBerry service in more than 44 countries through the 77 global roaming relationships that Mobily has established.
