Western Digital has upgraded its ‘MyBook’ external PC hard disk family with the rollout of the small business-aimed My Book Pro Edition, which features fast connections and system backup functionality.

The new drive is aimed at so-called small and home office (SOHO) ‘power users’ who require up to half a terabyte of high performance external storage capacity.

The My Book Pro Edition comes with no less than three connection interfaces; FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 (Firewire making it both PC and Mac compatible); plus it packs in EMC Retrospect backup and recovery software and is available in capacities of 250Gbytes or 500Gbytes.

Like the firm’s high-end consumer hard disk, the MyBook Premium edition, the Pro edition is equipped with a capacity gauge LED that allows users to discern at a glance their remaining storage space, self-installs when plugged into a PC, and also powers on and off with the PC.
