Kuwait's Ministry of Education has moved to secure its IT systems from online threats by deploying intrusion prevention vendor McAfee's ‘Foundstone' solution. McAfee claims the hardware appliances are designed to protect crucial network systems from attacks.

The implementation was carried out by McAfee Middle East and its Kuwaiti systems integration partner Smart Turnkey Solutions (STS), a data processing specialist that belongs to the Al-Yousefi Group.

McAfee claims its technology will enhance the Ministry's network IT security capabilities and protect against any vulnerabilities that may arise in future. The Ministry has been forced to invest in additional IT security following an increase in the number of IT users within the organisation and the ever-mounting risk of potential threats.

"With the assistance of our regional partner STS, the overall implementation and execution of the project was a success," declared Asem Galal, general manager at McAfee's Middle East operation. "We want to continue to build our presence in Kuwait and increase the availability of our leading intrusion prevention products in the region," he added.

A total of 6,000 IP addresses at the Ministry are covered by the vulnerability and remediation system.

STS, which also works alongside vendors such as Oracle, Intel, Cisco and Microsoft, implemented three Foundstone systems during the project, including Foundstone Primary Scan Engine and Foundstone Enterprise Manager.

STS carried out the deployment inside a two-week timeframe during which it evaluated the Ministry's infrastructure needs and installed the required technology.

SSA Al-Bedari, managing director at STS, said: "This successful project is further proof of our experience in offering leading IT solutions to enhance the security of network systems for organisations across the region. We believe that through the approach of prioritised and pro-active risk mitigation, the McAfee solutions implemented will see a return on investment in terms of project value for Kuwait's Ministry of Education," he concluded.

McAfee has enjoyed something of a purple patch in the Middle East market just recently. It also worked with partner Global Brands to implement an enterprise security risk management solution for Mobinil, Egypt's first GSM operator.

Mobinil selected the solution to manage security risks within its central IT network system.
