The new boss of HP Middle East's Personal Systems Group, Serdar Urcar, has outlined his plans to ensure the unit continues its strong growth in the Middle East.

Urcar, who previously ran the PSG business at HP Turkey, indicated that he is keen to extend more autonomy to the vendor's country offices and utilise the role of the channel.

"For the next six to 12 months my first priority will be to keep the momentum and team spirit which made us successful in the region," Urcar explained.

"On top of that, the main focus will be driving growth with more emphasis on stronger country organisation by ensuring the top consumer choice and creating more value for our business customers," he added. Urcar will be responsible for managing 11 countries in the region including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain in addition to hosting and managing the distribution and commercial channels for all products and services.

"Our channel ecosystem will go on to be our biggest asset for these objectives besides our people," he declared. Urcar brings five years of experience to the role from his time at the vendor's Turkish operation.

Under Urcar's guidance, HP consolidated its position as the market leader in PCs with PSG holding the number one slot for the past five years. During this time, the company also enjoyed a five-fold growth in sales over five years and outgrew the market last year.

Jos Brenkel, VP PSG at HP Mediterranean and MEA, commented: "This is an exciting time for HP Middle East. With a strong existing team and the appointment of Serdar, we look forward to continuing the success we have achieved in the region."

Urcar replaces former PSG chief Anil Gandhi who left HP's Middle East arm last month to take up the role of global business programme director within the vendor's PSG worldwide commercial sales team.
