Symantec has announced enhancements to Veritas Server Foundation, a product family which improves application availability, automates common server management tasks, controls configuration changes and optimises server utilisation. New features include workflow automation and configuration control capabilities to help minimise downtime, automate and standardise execution of critical server management processes and provide increased visibility across the datacentre. These enhancements will be made available by July 2007.

The Server Foundation suite includes four products which discover in detail what is running on all servers in the datacentre as well as actively manage and administer those servers. This includes the Veritas Cluster for cross-platform clustering, the Veritas Configuration Manager which provides application discovery, dependency mapping and change tracking, the Veritas Provisioning Manager which automates deployment and configuration of servers and applications including cross-platform patch management as well as Veritas Application Director which provides runtime control of applications and virtual machines.

Today's data center managers are embracing automation to maximize agility and control of their IT operations," said Mark Lohmeyer, vice president, Server Foundation product group, Symantec. "With sophisticated workflow and expanded configuration control capabilities, the latest release of Server Foundation addresses the challenges of increased complexity across the datacentre and represents a step forward in delivering on our vision for comprehensive datacentre automation."

According to Symantec, when combined with Server Foundation's existing impact analysis and real-time change tracking capabilities, these new features provide IT administrators and datacentre managers a complete range of tools to prevent downtime and rapidly identify the changes that caused downtime.
