Red Hat Linux distributor Opennet MEA has appointed a new general manager for the MENA region. David Allinson will oversee the company's operations and training centres across the GCC, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and all African French-speaking countries.

"I am delighted to be joining Opennet MEA at such a key point in its development," said Allinson. "Open source is fast gaining momentum in the enterprise computing space and I look forward to applying my experience and knowledge of enterprise computing and software distribution to further develop existing and new markets for Red Hat."

Allinson brings over 25 years' experience of business development and senior management in the IT industry in the UK, Cayman Islands and the Middle East to the table. In his new role, he will be focused on reorganising and streamlining Opennet's Middle East operations.

Allinson has experience within a range of technology companies including Texas Instruments, Ashton Tate, Novell, IBM and Xerox.

His last assignment in the Middle East was as divisional director at Dubai-based Online Distribution.

Anis Krichen, financial manager at Opennet MEA, said: "David has a wealth of experience in growing and developing businesses, creating winning strategies to strengthen their position in their individual market segments. His appointment is part of our new expansion strategy which involves expanding our market penetration through our business partners."

Opennet MEA claims it began reorganising its MEA operations a year ago, when it opened its expanded headquarters in Dubai Media City while transforming its former offices at Dubai Internet City into a fully-equipped training centre.

The company, which also opened a branch in Jeddah last year, is majority owned by Tunisian firm GMH.
