Demand for mobile TV will outstrip gaming and music in four years, according to research firm Screen Digest.

Of the various mobile content offerings available, it is the newest one - television - that is set to emerge as the strongest performer globally, the firm predicted, delivering US$6.36 billion of revenue from 140 million subscribers by 2011.

"While cynics doubt that consumers will be happy watching TV on such a small device, consumers are proving them wrong," David MacQueen, mobile analyst at Screen Digest, said.

Demand for music downloads will remain strong, with the market set to reach US$1.98 billion by 2011 - an eightfold increase from 2006, the firm said.

However, the gaming market will slow down to an estimated value of US$2.7 billion by 2011, according to Screen Digest.

MacQueen said regulatory and competitive pressures had pushed down consumer spend. "Mobile operators must now look to new content offerings to deliver the business growth," he added.
