HP has set up a training centre in Lebanon for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) aimed at speeding up economic development in the country.

The Microenterprise Acceleration Program (MAP) centre in Beirut officially opened this week and will provide services designed to help SMBs leverage technology in areas such as management and operations, finance, and communications and marketing.

"The HP MAP centres are fitted with the latest generation of IT equipment," said Serdar Urcar, newly-appointed general manager at HP Middle East's Personal Systems Group (PSG). "At HP, we aim to upgrade the philosophy and performance of micro-enterprises to help them meet growing challenges both on the domestic and international levels."

Urcar said the MAP network provided SMBs with many benefits, including the possibility of participating in EU co-funded programmes, using marketing and promotional material, and gaining full access to the trainers.

"The course is not designed to replace any of the existing certified courses, but equip entrepreneurs to make better decisions on a range of issues surrounding the integration of technology into business," he added.
