Smartphone and PDA vendor HTC is collaborating with its regional distributor Link Retail Distribution to run a series of training seminars across the UAE.

The training drive is being carried out in an effort to assist the vendor's arrival into the Middle East as a standalone brand after years of acting solely as an OEM for companies such as i-mate, 02 and Virgin Mobile.

Over 100 sales staff from Dubai-based electronic retailers attended the maiden event to learn about the products that HTC plans to introduce to the region. The contract assembler claims it is looking to build up its brand within the channel and is confident that the training seminars will help to establish strong relationships with retail partners.

Vishnu Vardhan, executive director at HTC Middle East and North Africa, commented: "We are forging close relationships with all our distribution channels, as the retail staff are brand ambassadors for HTC. Our heavy investment in the HTC retailer training programme further underpins our commitment to this region."

Ahmed Ashraf, general manager at Link Retail Distribution, insists the market is looking forward to HTC's arrival and reckons the vendor's penchant for developing new technology will be well received. "Electronic retailers in the UAE are very excited about HTC's arrival," he said. "The market has developed. The emergence of 3G is maturing and there is greater awareness and willingness in people to use new technology."

Ashraf continued: "The HTC range of products is the most innovative that this region has ever seen, and Middle East customers are ready and willing to try them."

Taiwan-based HTC's foray into the market under its own brand name has led the company to announce a number of initiatives to increase brand awareness.
Back in March it rolled out a high-profile marketing campaign after confirming plans to open a regional head office in the UAE.
