Mobile communication vendor Mio Technology is aiming to capture new customers in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE following an agreement with Almasa.

The distributor is currently bundling Mio's products with Route 66 navigation software in a bid to tempt resellers operating in those markets.

Sonia Chan, regional sales head at Mio Technology, called the regional launch of its GPS PDA and PND products a "major milestone" for the firm's Middle East business.

Frank Sheu, CEO at Almasa believes the GCC map solution developed by Route 66 will prove a hit with Mio buyers. "We saw months of extensive user testing and ongoing development in which engineers and technicians from Mio Technology, ROUTE 66 and Almasa had been involved," he said. "The result is an accurate, reliable and user friendly GCC map solution based on the most current data available for those countries."

Following Mio's introduction to the region, Almasa plans to deliver the same bundles in Oman, Qatar and Bahrain in the second quarter of 2007.
