High performance computer vendor SGI has named industry veteran Bo Ewald as its chief executive.

Ewald has previously headed up companies such as Linux Network, Scale Eight, E-Stamp, and was once chief operating officer of SGI.

"Bo Ewald brings the right skill set to lead SGI as we move from a focus on restructuring and stabilisation to a focus on growth and profitability," said Kevin Katari, SGI chairman. "Bo's leadership skills and extensive experience in a range of high-performance computing and storage markets make him the right CEO to lead SGI to success."

Ewald replaces Dennis McKenna, who was at the helm for 14 months during SGI's period of restructuring.

"The board and employees of SGI are extremely grateful to Dennis McKenna for his decisive leadership and contributions over the past year, successfully restructuring and stabilising the company," Katari added.
