Al Raya supermarket chain in Saudi Arabia is deploying the Cognos 8 Business Intelligence (BI) solution to closely monitor and analyse its business practices.

The chain signed a contract with Cognos' regional partner Leading Edge Technology Services (Lets) last week, and the systems integrator will head up deployment of the vendor's flagship product.

Al Raya said it selected Cognos to gain a better understanding of customer demand and logistics, as well as study long-term consumer behaviour, in order to increase its market share within the Kingdom.

The chain is one of the biggest supermarkets in the southern and western provinces of Saudi Arabia, with 16 branches in cities such as Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah and Taif.

"In order to live up to our reputation for offering a 24/7 service, the Al Raya team have gone with the best system available. We are looking forward to building on our strong customer relations using the latest techniques and technologies," said Majid Al-Kammash, director of Al Raya.

Derek Morrison, regional general manager at Cognos Middle East, said Cognos 8 BI would provide a consistent, accurate view of information to better manage performance.

"It is a robust technology foundation for BI standardisation and corporate performance management. It is easy to deploy and administer, and is highly versatile," he added.
