Dubai-based Emaar Industries and Investments (EII) is deploying an enterprise resource planning (ERP ) system from Microsoft to help support growth in its business.

The firm, a subsidiary of developer group Emaar Properties, is deploying Microsoft's Dynamics NAV solution, with the help of implementation partner Columbus IT.

Jalal Jazzar, chief finance officer of EII, told IT Weekly the firm decided to adopt an ERP system because it wanted to have greater control of the different businesses it has acquired.

Founded in August 2005, EII has bought eight companies to date and said it planned to have between 20 and 25 by the end of 2008.

"As EII is a newly established company, we needed an ERP system that helps us in reducing the processing time of transactions and enhancing our efficiency. We conducted a system selection with the help of KPMG and chose Dynamics NAV solution from Microsoft," he said.

EII spent just over US$272,000 on the software, which replaces tailored systems at each firm. One of the main benefits of the solution is real-time reporting, something Jazzar said would become increasingly important as the firm expanded.

Deployment started this spring and will finish by November.
