HP and GBM amongst NME award winners

HP ProCurve was named the region's best networking vendor this week by readers of Network Middle East (NME) in the magazine's Innovation Awards.

HP ProCurve was named the region's best networking vendor this week by readers of Network Middle East (NME) in the magazine's Innovation Awards.

The vendor picked up the coveted prize at a ceremony on April 2 at Dubai's Grosvenor House hotel.

The other award voted for by readers of NME, sister title of IT Weekly, for best networking integrator in the Middle East, went to distributor Gulf Business Machines (GBM).

The awards ceremony, in its third year, is held annually to recognise excellence in the networking industry.

Seventeen prizes were awarded in total, with Michael Dobe of UAE University collecting the prestigious networking professional of the year award and Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior scooping the award for most influential end-user.

Abdulrahman Al-Shenaifi, who collected the award for the ministry, highlighted the significance of the "human touch" in IT and the importance of ensuring "we are not just signals in the network".

Other winners at the event included Burj Al Arab hotel, which took home the prize for best wireless implementation, Wateen Telecom for best WAN implementation, and Etisalat for BlackBerry for best new technology.
