Network storage company Compellent Technologies has added server management to its storage software.

The vendor said the Server Instant Replay solution, launched last week, automated booting servers from a storage area network (SAN) -without requiring third-party applications, server disk drives or server-based software.

Server Instant Replay, which is included in Compellent's Storage Center 3.5 suite, can create a snapshot of a server image, allowing customers to quickly recover failed servers or redeploy that image on other servers, the firm said.

"Compellent is committed to helping enterprise customers gain better efficiencies, streamline operations and slash costs throughout their data centres," said Bruce Kornfeld, vice president of marketing for Compellent.

"Server Instant Replay is another breakthrough technology from Compellent that can completely redefine the impact storage has for customers - and at no additional charge," he added.
